With more than seven thousand meters of coast, only 60 kilometers far from the capital of the state of Santa Catarina and 12 kilometers far from Balneario Camboriu, Itapema concentrates all the best requirements for a dream summer vacation - colors, sounds and wild fun - and yet it remains a tranquil beach. The city is surrounded by complete facilities and by the mountains of the untouched Atlantic forest with its different shades of green. Those factors gave the city a high status. The city is only 38 years old and is the third city in the state in terms of number of tourists.

That position in the rank has been granted to Itapema by the Brazilian Tourism Institute (Embratur), taking as a reference the numbers from the last summer season. The city appears following the capital of the state - Florianopolis, with its 42 beaches and an international airport, being the third most visited city in the country - and Balneario Camboriu, the most famous beach of the south of Brazil;

A bay surrounded by beauties. Beaches with calm crystal waters and white sands. The greens of the Atlantic forest and a healthy climate. All that invite visitors to the perfect relaxation.

Itapema offers, all year through, an excellent leisure structure. It was one of the cities of Santa Catarina with the highest growth rate in the last few years. The population is around 35 thousand inhabitants but in the summer, the city receives around 300 thousand tourists. Several malls offer excellent options for shopping.

As far as education is concerned, Itapema counts on the University campus of Univali (Itajaí). Presently, the university offers three courses at that campus.
